Serving Suggestions

Plant-based protein burgers can be topped with all the fixins you know and love n a beef burger. Here are some of my favorite additions to these beef and sausage burgers:

  • Pretzel buns – Pretzel bread makes for a perfect flavor pairing with the sausage in the burgers.
  • Grainy Dijon mustard – Adds a savory touch.
  • Red onion – For a little crunch and pop of color.
  • Sauerkraut – Because sausage and sauerkraut were made for each other.
  • Jalapeno peppers – Add slices of fresh or pickled peppers to kick up the heat.

Ingredients for Beyond Impossible Burgers

You will need the following:

  • 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
  • 14 ounces Impossible Foods vegan ground beef
  • 3 links Beyond Meat Hot Italian sausage
  • 1/2 cup pretzels – any shape is fine; they’re going to be chopped to breadcrumb consistency anyway (Pro Tip: Use a mini chopper to get the job done in seconds!)
  • 1/2 cup vegan mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons red onion, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon vegan Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

How to Make Beyond Impossible Burgers

STEP ONE: For the flax egg: Into a small bowl, add the ground flaxseed and 2 1/2 tablespoons of water. Whisk to combine and set aside.

STEP TWO: For the burgers: Into a large mixing bowl crumble the vegan ground beef and sausage. Add the flax egg mixture, pretzel crumbs, vegan cheese, red onion, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, cayenne pepper sauce, sea salt, and ground black pepper. Using your very clean hands, mix everything together until evenly combined.

STEP THREE: Divide ground meat mixture into 6 equal portions for veggie burgers or 12 equal portions for sliders. Form into patties by rolling each portion into a ball. Then, using the palm of your hand, flatten to desired thickness.

STEP FOUR: Place patties on the preheated grill. Cook for about 7 minutes per side, or until heated through. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 160 degrees F. Serve hot.

Impossible Foods makes a gluten-free burger made largely of soy protein concentrate, coconut oil, and sunflower oil, along with genetically engineered heme that gives it its meat-like quality. Beyond Meat, on the other hand, is mostly built on pea protein, expeller-pressed canola oil, coconut oil, and seasonings.

How do you upgrade Impossible Burger? ›

Thinly Sliced Onions: I love charring up some super thinly sliced onions with the patties -- I think it adds so much flavor! Dill Pickles: Use your favorite dill pickle brand here -- just make sure to slice them into thin coins so they'll easily stay on the burger. Lettuce: Look for a lettuce with a nice crunch.

Why do vegans not like impossible meat? ›

Why is impossible meat not vegan? ›

But I do see some vegans disliking it because some vegans don't like how meat tastes or it does not taste close enough to a burger by their standards. Also, it is not vegan by some vegans' standards because its heme ingredient was tested on animals for FDA approval.

Salt is added to plant-based meat during processing, making it inherently more salty than regular ground beef.

Should I season impossible patties? ›

What is the secret to the Impossible Burger? ›

If you've ever bitten into an Impossible Burger, you've likely been pretty blown away by just how meaty it is. How can a burger made from plants, with zero animal products, taste that close to a real beef patty? Well, according to Impossible Foods, the answer is in one key ingredient: heme.

What are the tips for cooking impossible ground beef? ›

Start with a preheated pan, then season as you would ground beef and pan-fry until cooked through. You will want to serve it immediately—it doesn't sit well. Impossible meat works well formed into patties, skewers, meatballs, bao, kofte—any place you would use ground meat, really!

How can I make my burgers more flavorful? ›

Blue cheese, grilled pineapple, or avocado will add a lot of flavor to a classic hamburger. Many, if not all, of these ingredients can already be found in your kitchen and pantry.
