This incredible Sweet Potato Pie recipe will be the best dessert this holiday season! Fresh sweet potatoes, evaporated milk, and spices with a brown sugar topping!
I absolutely love sweet potatoes! Probably equally as much as I love pumpkin, especially this time of the year. If you’ve never made this sweet potato pie recipe, consider this your sign to try it – you won’t believe how easy it is!
How many sweet potatoes will I need?
This sweet potato pie recipe calls for 1 1/2 cups of mashed sweet potatoes – about three medium sized sweet potatoes. This recipe is a great way to use up sweet potatoes you may have hanging around in your pantry!
How do you mash sweet potatoes?
Just boil some water in a stock pot and place the potatoes in the boiling water for 20 – 30 minutes or until they are easily pierced with a fork. Then peel and mash!
What does sweet potato pie taste like?
Very similar to pumpkin pie! If you are a pumpkin pie fan, you will most likely love this sweet potato pie recipe.
How to make sweet potato pie:
Place the mashed potatoes, eggs, sugar, evaporated milk, spices, and vanilla in a mixing bowl.
Beat well. Pour filling into a 9 inch pie crust. Bake at 425 for 15 minutes. Then reduce heat to 350 and bake another 15 minutes.
In another mixing bowl, blend flour, brown sugar, and cold butter until coarse crumbs form. Sprinkle over partially baked pie. Return to the oven, and bake an additional 15 – 20 minutes or until just set. Allow to cool completely before serving.
My favorite Thanksgiving pies:
- We always have classic Libby’s Pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving – my kids would have a conniption without it!
- My Pastor’s Wife Apple Crumb Pie is another must-make Thanksgiving dessert
- This recipe for Cherry Crumb Pie is perfect for both Thanksgiving and Christmas as well!

My most nostalgic holiday spice has to be cinnamon–from cookies, to pumpkin pie and sweet potatoes, it seems to be a key ingredient in everything this time of year.

Definitely cinnamon. It makes me nostalgic for the cinnamon sugar toast I'd make for myself as a snack when I was a kid. #flavorstory

I hope I can use heavy cream (20%) instead of evaporating milk (we don't have it here)Reply

I made this pie for a population of people who have traveled a lot and tasted many sweet potato pies. I had such high praise and many compliments that this pie is absolutely the best ever tasted. This is because the creator of this recipe allowed the sweet potatoes to be the star of the dish. The common mistake is to treat the sweet potato pie like pumpkin pie which is really sad, but the creator of the recipe did well!
