My family loves camping and cooking in dutch ovens. One recipe that we make almost every time we go is Dutch Oven Chicken. It is so easy to make and tastes amazing. You can even make this in your house and just cook it on your gas stove or in the oven.
To make the Dutch Oven Chicken put frozen chicken breasts into the dutch oven then add 1 bottle of BBQ sauce and stir together. We like to use Sweet Baby Rays sauce. You can add onions, peppers, carrots or a variety of other veggies. Because the chicken is frozen, it will have some liquid that will accumulate as it cooks, so you don’t need to worry about adding water.
The prep for this is so easy and you can have it cooking while you do other things (like making dutch oven potatoes or dutch oven peach cobbler) or throw your line in the lake and fish for while. If you are using fresh chicken, you may want to add a little water (like 1/2-1 cup) with the BBQ sauce before cooking.
Cook time will vary, depending on how hot you have the dutch oven, but it usually takes about 45 mins – 1 hour. You will want to test it with a meat thermometer(and make sure there is no pink inside). Dutch Oven Chicken is a family favorite, and I am sure that your family will love it too!
Pair this with a fresh salad (another simple idea is adding 1 16 oz container of cottage cheese with a regular size tub of whip cream and 1 regular size package of gelatin and mixing it together). Put some chips out, with fresh or steamed/cooked veggies and some potatoes and you will have the perfect dinner whether you are camping or eating in your house.
What is your favorite Dutch Oven recipe? We will be sharing more over the coming months, so be sure to check back. I would love to hear how you make your Dutch oven chicken if it is different, so I can try it!

Sorry, I didn’t get back to you yesterday – I would recommend about an hour and temp check. I hope it turned out great!
