1. Modern Fireplace TV Wall

31 Stunning Fireplace Wall Ideas with a TV for your Living Room - Amanda Katherine (2)

Big and modern living rooms such as these would do well with an equally modern fireplace and TV. If you have the space, try this solid wall divider for an impressive feature.

Use a marble finish on this particular wall divider to give it a sleeker, cleaner, more polished, and sophisticated look. The black marble with the rest of the light interior balances the look perfectly.

Longer and narrower fireplaces adjust exceedingly well with bigger living rooms. A square traditional fireplace in this modern setting wouldn’t look right. If you will notice, the TV isn’t recessed – it’s mounted directly on the marble. This offers flexibility and simplicity in this minimalist living room.

2. TV Over Fireplace on a Sleek Black Wall Bump-Out

31 Stunning Fireplace Wall Ideas with a TV for your Living Room - Amanda Katherine (3)

This is yet another fireplace wall idea that screams modern, minimal, and sophisticated. It’s not at all plain or boring even thought it’s primarily black and white – it’s chic and polished.

The fireplace wall bump-out is paneled with matte black painted wood, giving your living room a smooth and refined look. The TV is well-fitted inside an alcove and so is the fireplace so it looks very custom. Along with that, the fireplace has an equally sleek mantel to display antiques or accessories.

3. TV Above Fireplace: Modern Living Room with High Ceiling and Side Windows

31 Stunning Fireplace Wall Ideas with a TV for your Living Room - Amanda Katherine (4)

I’m a fan of high-ceiling living rooms and equally high windows. All the natural light makes me happy. Add a simple yet elegant fireplace, a TV, and a long vertical marble slab on the wall bump-out to deliver a high-end finish.

Instead of a mantel, this fireplace is adjusted with a cream and fuzzy bench seat that is just inviting you to curl up by the fire.

It’s simple and minimalist yet so modern, elegant, and fresh! No need to do some super innovative design to make a statement.

4. Gorgeous Beige Living Room with TV and Fireplace

31 Stunning Fireplace Wall Ideas with a TV for your Living Room - Amanda Katherine (5)

Sometimes, symmetry is what your living room needs to avoid clutter and suffocation!

This recommendation has a symmetrical distribution of space. You can notice wall niches inset on both sides of the fireplace. In the center, the fireplace and TV are balanced at equal distances, both vertically and horizontally. They both are similar in size for an all around symmetrical look.

In a small living room, fireplace and TV symmetry give a sense of intention and thoughtfulness, making great use of the space.

Plus, the greige paint color (Benjamin Moore’s strand of pearls) is a classic choice for this neutral living room.

5. Minimalist Style Contemporary Modern Fireplace with TV Above

31 Stunning Fireplace Wall Ideas with a TV for your Living Room - Amanda Katherine (6)

Benjamin Moore’s natural cream wall contrasted with white furniture and accessories is a match made in paradise! It’s so welcoming, serene, light, and modern.

The fireplace wall bump-out gives dimension to an otherwise “stark” room that could end up looking too flat if you aren’t careful. Minimalism doesn’t portray a lack of effort, but rather the beauty in the statement “less is more.”

The electric fireplace is long but not extremely narrow; it sits in the middle balancing the room and its focal point.

The TV is at an appropriate distance between the ceiling and the fireplace. The fireplace mantel runs throughout the length of the wall instead of stopping at the bump-out and it allows you to add beautiful decor at the sides of the fireplace wall!

6. Electric Fireplace with TV Above on Wooden Paneling

31 Stunning Fireplace Wall Ideas with a TV for your Living Room - Amanda Katherine (7)

Who can deny the warmth wooden paneling brings into a living room? Unlike drywall, wood paneling has a rough and earthy texture that adds a certain rawness and rustic appeal to your living room. Because this wood has a warm undertone, it goes really well with the golden hue of the fire and the warm glow of the accent lights.

There are two different types of wooden paneling in this living room: 3D shiplap on the sides and plank paneling on our main fireplace wall. Although the TV is slightly cornered at the left side of the wall, it’s intentionally done so to center oriented around the sofa conversation area.

As for the fireplace, its narrow width and long transparent body add a unique touch with room for accessories.

7. Organic Living Room with Fireplace and TV

31 Stunning Fireplace Wall Ideas with a TV for your Living Room - Amanda Katherine (8)

This living room oozes with a laid-back Spanish vibe I’m seeing more and more of lately.

The use of plaster, curved edges and Bohemian rug are all subtle details that give it away.

It resembles a house you might see in the Southwest— the softly curved wall, smooth putty-like finish, built-in mantel, and seating areas. Makes great use of a smaller space!

The fireplace wall is situated to the right but continues to be the focal point of this living room. I personally love the narrow space for wooden logs at the corner; the whole design gives such a cozy vibe! I can just imagine renting this place for a weekend in Santa Fe.

8. Natural Modern Living Room With Fireplace and TV Ideas

31 Stunning Fireplace Wall Ideas with a TV for your Living Room - Amanda Katherine (9)

The living room has curved walls and puts a fun twist on your living room.

Even the furniture and wooden decor pieces are hand-made of natural materials such as wicker, wood logs, and clay.

The whole living room is a modern escape from the urban interiors and a step closer to organic decor with the added benefit of curved walls and an earthy ambiance! It resembles a historic castle or an organic stay somewhere in Greece. Of course; you’d need to paint the cob house white and blue for attaining a Greek interior.

But beige walls, furniture, and floor work just fine, too! It accentuates the softness of the living room.

The fireplace and TV above are both well-fitted in random alcove shapes with irregular hand-made mantels. The whole living room is irregular and unsymmetrical; that’s probably what gives it a raw and majestic appeal.

9. Bumped-Out Fireplace with White Marble Finish

31 Stunning Fireplace Wall Ideas with a TV for your Living Room - Amanda Katherine (10)

Back to the modern interior, we have this simple yet elegant white marble fireplace and TV wall with niches on both sides illuminated with LED lights. The lights along with the fire adds a great amount of warmth to this modern space. The narrow fireplace and TV alcoves are adorned with clean, straight, and polished lines.

Simple and elegant at its best!

10. Electric Fireplace ideas with TV

31 Stunning Fireplace Wall Ideas with a TV for your Living Room - Amanda Katherine (11)

Another white marble fireplace wall idea but with the added focus of LED lights around the TV.

The accent lighting really emphasizes the niches and the pretty decorations on the shelf. If you want to add this type of lighting and you are remodelling the TV area, tell your electrician at the start of the project so he can wire for the track lighting before the building begins. It saves a lot of time and makes it much easier for him to install the track lights later.

11. Light Greige TV and Fireplace wall

31 Stunning Fireplace Wall Ideas with a TV for your Living Room - Amanda Katherine (12)

As compared to the sleeker and shinier surface of a marble fireplace wall, bare drywall is also an option and would save on costs for an expensive materials like a solid stone.

Along with framed niches for both TV and fireplace; the wall is also subtly flat panelled with moulding to add additional detail.

This room has a standard ceiling height but a long and broad room length, so the 75-inch TV over the fireplace doesn’t suffocate your living room.

12. Mount TV Above Fireplace

31 Stunning Fireplace Wall Ideas with a TV for your Living Room - Amanda Katherine (13)

There’s so much going around in this living room; it’s breathtaking. I cannot decide which element is my favorite; whether the ornate green marble with golden veins covering the height of this fireplace wall or the gorgeous painting atop, blending with the warm moody interior.

We cannot deny how the marble centerpiece doubles in beauty and contrast because of the subdued gray walls on both sides. The geometric pattern adds to its modern ambiance without infringing its but-obvious moody vibe.

I would call this fireplace wall a perfect blend of modern and moody aesthetics. The way everything complements and accentuates each other is simply a masterpiece!

There’s a well-thought-out combination of modern lamps and metal ornate candles at the fireplace wall, giving just the right amount of sun-kissed glow to this living space without being too bright or too dark!

I also like how the wooden mantle doesn’t consume too much width and is only 4-5 inches thick! Mantels that cover 10-15 inches of the floor in height and width often take up too much space, leaving your room stuffy and boxy! I love each and every detail of this fireplace wall; a work of art!

The fireplace is alcoved in a green marble with a black frame and the TV stays on top without an alcove.

13. Fireplace with Windows on Each Side

31 Stunning Fireplace Wall Ideas with a TV for your Living Room - Amanda Katherine (14)

I love the rustic beam ceiling in this gorgeous black and white modern living room. The fireplace wall is simple with clean lines to let the expansive steal the show.

Notice how the mantle and hearth are complementary and made from the same material. This is a simple design and a good reminder that the mantle doesn’t always need to contrast the hearth.

A bigger living room with higher ceiling does well with a broad and long fireplace. The proportions feel just right with the chunky mantle, otherwise in a smaller room it might overtake the space.

14. All-White Fireplace Wall with TV

31 Stunning Fireplace Wall Ideas with a TV for your Living Room - Amanda Katherine (15)

The off-white/creamwhite paint adds softness to the grand fireplace wall feature so it doesn’t overwhelm the space or feel too heavy.

The fireplace wall itself has a subtle herringbone pattern adding character and design without being too much. I like this choice because it mimics the herringbone design in the rug.

It’s overall a great choice if your taste is minimalist, airy, and welcoming instead of edgy or overly modern.

15. Small Living Room Idea With Tv And Fireplace

31 Stunning Fireplace Wall Ideas with a TV for your Living Room - Amanda Katherine (16)

Fireplace wall featuring a wooden 3D pattern to add texture and interest in a small room.

In a small living room there are fewer opportunities to add texture and cool features, so a textured wall behind the TV is a perfect choice. You can also achieve a similar look by using wallpaper behind the TV to create your focal point in the room.

16. Modern TV Fireplace Wall Unit Design with an Industrial Touch

31 Stunning Fireplace Wall Ideas with a TV for your Living Room - Amanda Katherine (17)

I always admire the beauty of blending different interior styles in one single living room. This living room is modern, however, covering the fireplace wall with slate stones gives this space an industrial pull.

The textured stone fireplace wall is a statement in itself and doesn’t need any further decoration or elements. In fact, adding unnecessary elements will take the focus away from the wall. No need for a mantle that would break up the stone. In a modern setting; less is more!

17. Dark Grey Fireplace Wall with TV

31 Stunning Fireplace Wall Ideas with a TV for your Living Room - Amanda Katherine (18)

The beadboard paneling adds a modern and industrial appeal to your living room. Plus, the subdued gray color perfectly blends with your black framed fireplace and equally black TV! No TV eyesore sticking out like a sore thumb.

18. Built-in Electric Fireplace Ideas

31 Stunning Fireplace Wall Ideas with a TV for your Living Room - Amanda Katherine (19)

After white and off-white; greige is another popular choice for your fireplace wall.

  • It’s neither too soft nor too sharp.
  • It’s not too bright or too dull.
  • The undertones are neither too warm nor too cool in temperature.

All in all, this color is a balance between warm beige and cool gray. A wrong color choice can totally ruin your desired living room’s vibe. This particular choice is for someone who likes a warm, cozy feeling that’s not too modern.

I also absolutely love how this wall is bare and free of any extra details – just a wall yet it doesn’t look boring.

Minimalism at its best. It’s not effortless but rather a strong move towards sophistication.

20. Rustic Interior Idea for Fireplace and TV Wall

The natural stone fireplace sets the tone for this rustic living room. Did you know, stone is a natural insulator against heat? That’s why it makes a great option for a fireplace surround.

The boho rugs, planked wood ceiling and rustic wood mantle together create such a cozy vibe. I just want to sit by the fire all curled up with a good book!

Frequently Asked Questions for Fireplace Wall Ideas with TV

Incorporating a television into your fireplace wall does raise quite a few opinions and questions, the most common concern being safety.

“How do I protect my TV from fireplace heat?”

“Is it safe to hang a TV above a fireplace?”

“Can heat destroy a TV screen?

Then there are also the questions around details and the height and size of TV.

“How should I arrange my fireplace and TV?”

“Can we place a TV next to the fireplace?”

“Should TV or fireplace be bigger?”

“Is watching TV above fireplace too high?”

Here’s a compiled list of the most frequently asked questions and the answers you need for designing a TV fireplace wall.

1. Should the TV and fireplace be on the same wall?

The most commonly asked question: “Is it OK to put a TV over the fireplace?”

You are probably worried about the damage a fireplace can cause to your electronic device and your concern is understandable. However, TV and Fireplaces can be on the same wall without infringing safety. You need to keep a few things in mind:

  • The distance between your fireplace and TV. A gas fireplace would need more distance separation than an electric fireplace. With gas/wood burning fireplaces, have 12-20 inches distance from the TV. Electric fireplaces are safer and generate less heat; so you can have a short distance of 8 inches between them.
  • Use insulating material around the TV (inside the wall bump-out) to further reduce the chances of damage.
  • Installing a mantel between your TV screen and the firebox adds an extra layer of protection

It’s always best to bring in an expert if you aren’t sure on the safest distance for your TV. Here is more information on safety tips and guidelines around mounting a TV above a fireplace.

2. How should I arrange my fireplace and TV?

Your fireplace and TV can go on the same wall without any hindrance. In fact, adjusting them on the same wall adds balance and symmetry to your modern living room. Not to mention how well they save space and add an aesthetic charisma to your living room!

Having a TV and fireplace on the same wall also allocates one gorgeous focal point to your living room; it puts everything into perspective. Of course, the right angle and positioning is necessary to protect your TV from heat and your neck from straining, but it’s attainable!

Usually, the TV goes above the fireplace, but many prefer a side-by-side TV and fireplace arrangement to avoid damage altogether. Both the arrangements are great when done with precision!

3. Can a TV be next to a fireplace?

Short answer, yes! You can place a TV next to a fireplace but you will have to be extra careful of the interior design. A wrong interior style will completely ruin your living room and look extremely disorderly and messy.

You can place A TV next to a fireplace if you have a bigger and longer living room. A smaller living room would look suffocated and congested if you are not careful.

  • When adding a TV next to a fireplace in a small living, ensure the wall you are choosing is clutter-free and austere.
  • Don’t add any other detail or ornate elements to this wall; keep it simple and bare!
  • Align your TV and fireplace at the same height, indifference in height isn’t a smart choice!

4. Should TV or fireplace be bigger?

It depends on your living room’s size and interior. In general, it doesn’t matter which one’s bigger if you create a harmonious symmetry between both the units. If you’d look at the fireplace wall ideas with the TV above; you will notice there are all types of TV/fireplace size variations in my recommendation because they are all good!

  • There are TVs bigger than Fireplaces.
  • There are bigger fireplaces arranged with smaller TVs.
  • We also have an equal sized TV and fireplace arrangement.

All the variants look gorgeous when you attain a proper balance when adjusting the fireplace and TV unit to the wall. Remember, balance and symmetry is the key!

5. What size TV looks good over a fireplace?

I would say avoid small-sized TVs. It doesn’t matter whether your living room is big or small; the TV should be big. It wouldn’t suffocate your living room in any way! However, you must choose your fireplace’s size more carefully.

Too big and broad fireplace would look awfully suffocating in a small living room. The best choice is choosing long and narrow fireplaces; they don’t go against a small space! In fact, they add affluency and sophistication to your room.

Similarly, don’t use too heavy mantel (wide) if you have a small living room; they will consume too much space. Instead, go for sleeker and thinner mantel whether for your TV or your fireplace.

6. Is watching TV above fireplace too high?

The right position is crucial to avoid straining your neck or posture. If you place your TV too high and close to the ceiling; you are bound to hurt yourself and your posture along the way. It’s also why all my suggestions have a low placement for the TV unit.

So, please position your TV at eye level or 15 degrees above or below. Your sofa placement is crucial, too! If your TV is 75 inches long, place the sofa at least 150 inches away from the TV.

7. How do I protect my TV from fireplace heat?

Here’s how you can protect your TV from fireplace heat:

  • Keep visible distance between your TV and fireplace (8-20 inches)
  • Add a mantel between your fireplace and TV.
  • Use a fireplace hood when both the devices are in use.
  • Choose an enclosed fireplace.
  • It’s even better if you choose an electric fireplace. Many electric fireplaces come with realistic flame visuals to provide you an authentic experience.
  • Insulate the wall bump-out properly.
  • Consult a professional!

8. Where’s the best place to put the fireplace?

Placing your fireplace at the center of your adjoining living room and dining space is a sweet choice (Refer to our first recommendation). You can add a transparent fireplace frame to the lengths of the divider wall and create a beautiful illusion of fire on both sides.

On the wall, the fireplace looks best when it’s closer to the floor or 50-60 inches above the floor!

9. Does heat from the fireplace damage the TV?

It wouldn’t damage your TV if you follow the correct guidelines! Ensuring safety is a must, so don’t forget to consult a professional!
